Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is the most common procedure performed by Dr. Bundrick for both functional and cosmetic purposes. Excess eyelid skin and prolapsed orbital tissue can droop over the eyelashes and constrict the visual field. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty removes the excess skin and restores the eyelid crease, which makes patients appear more youthful and well-rested.
Upper Eyelid Ptosis Surgery
Ptosis is drooping of the eyelid which can occur from excess eyelid skin or from a weakened levator muscle. The levator muscle is responsible for elevating the upper eyelid, and it can become weak over time from aging, trauma, eye surgery, or neurological disease. Dr. Bundrick can surgically correct ptosis by reattaching stretched muscles to their proper anatomic location. This can be performed externally through an incision hidden in the eyelid crease or internally through the back of the eyelid.
Lower Eyelid Malpositions
Aging and other factors can contribute to malposition of the lower eyelids including ectropion and entropion. These can be quite bothersome due to irritation to the cornea from eyelashes or from dryness due to exposure. These problems can be surgically fixed with a variety of lid tightening operations that are performed under local anesthesia.
What to Expect
There is minimal discomfort from surgery, and most patients return to their normal activities within 7-10 days. Patients are advised to hold all blood thinners prior to surgery, but there is usually some bruising and swelling that gradually improves over 1-2 weeks. Often sutures are placed that will need to be removed 1 week after surgery.
